MWM... where mediocracy prevails, and people fight for it to remain.

Following our previous post regarding this year's Miss World Malta, we thought it appropriate to dedicate a post to answering some of the comments left by readers. We were seriously appalled at the sheer mediocracy people are comfortable with and at how a good chunk of the Maltese seem to be unable to digest criticism.

It's incredible how complacent people are. Why are these people so happy with what is merely semi-decent at best? Also, dear Val, just because "the setup was the best in years", doesn't mean that it was good, or "beautiful", to use the adjective you chose to endow the show with. Oh, and what does the fact that "fashion is really improving" have to do with a beauty pageant, exactly? Please, do enlighten us.

We are being cruel because we're expressing an opinion? Really? What is this, a kindergarten talent show? Yeah, we might sit back and "think of the effort put in to set the show up" in that case. Have a look at the hard work involved in this kind of thing abroad, then review MWM - spot the difference, darling!

This is our absolute favourite. We'll translate, for the benefit of our non-Maltese readers (since some people don't have the decency to comment in English on a blog that is, very evidently, in English) - "You're semen. Let them participate. The important thing is that they feel good about themselves, even if they're not particularly pretty." Yes, semen, really! The sheer ignorance and baseness that some people dare exhibit is beyond us.

Of course, there were more. The above are simply our top picks. One of the things that utterly amaze us is the fact that many people seem to be highly opinionated, yet chose to remain anonymous. What is the point of throwing mud at our faces when they don't even have the guts to put a name under their comments? Alas, will the Maltese ever learn?

  1. I'm showing my name so you can't say that I'm hiding. I think you are pathetic because how can you compare shows that take place in Malta with shows that take place abroad? They are more rich so in reality they can afford more beautiful things. We at least try even if we are small.

Kevin, Malta is a country like all the others. In certain situations we Maltese always get frustrated because we are not 'treated' as other countries (if you can understand what I mean)
And about the money...So what if other countries have more money! You can always put up a DECENT show with a limited amount of budget. If the show wasn't up to standard, it wasn't fullstop! but we cannot get up with the excuse that Malta is a small country so we cover up the 'problem'.

This is so bloody true. If we want to improve we must face criticism and we ought to stop being so ignorant when it comes to these things because otherwise we will always be stupid and never quite improve. Don't worry K&R I've always read your posts and even though I haven't always agreed with you I have always appreciated your honesty and well-written posts.

    1. So true...I was at a meeting today - a formal one, led by people representing their group locally - and I couldn't believe when I actually heard their remark to a (decent)proposal 'That will probably never work in Malta. It works very well in other countries, but we wouldn't manage because of the mentality here'!! Where does it end? Or better still - where does it start??

  4. I honestly believe that you guys did a fantastic job in reviewing such an important event in Malta. I wish you guys started reviewing more and more events like this one so that people who wouldn't have attended such events get a good idea of what is really going on. I was there, and i was totally appalled by the organisation Sue has put up. People were seated in the green room area at MCC, yes guys we actually paid 15 euros to be seated in a corridor with not even enough chairs for the equivalent number of tickets sold. The bar was another amazing thrill. A coke and a sprite would be served as a bottle (warm) and two plastic glasses still stuck together full of ice, and having the bar tender saying (issa ferraw inthom) :-/ as in Sue, Really? is this what we have come down to? XOXO

I am not surprised with these comments because this has been happening for a while in MWM. If you start with the contestants one will notice that less and less appealing contestants are taking part. Second, many of the contestants took part in the past and if one notice they for sure had a clue that they are going to win. For example I can name three contestants that they knew this was there year, like Channel Debattista won on her second turm, Claire as well and even this year winner Daniela. Sue should know these things and she should have stopped them from taking part or make a rule of time limit etc..I am sure in few years or next year we will see two names taking part like Katrina Pavia and Chritine Sammut and one will remember this theory and say that once I heard this and truly is happening. They both took part in the past and they soon take part again and both they win and Miss Rossi knows they will but she still drag other contestants and tell them that they can win and they stand a good chance. It is a comment that she tend to tell to everyone who signs in MWM. If you are a model and manage to win from behind you must be very carefull because the Boss can easy make your life hell once you are on her black list and decide that she doesn't like you.
It would be fantastic if one points out how much a contestant pays to take part and how much a sponsor pays to advert in the event and we all know that it is views on Malta;s lowest rated TV station and the final is aired in the time when a few elder people will be struggling to see 30 minutes of the show before they fall asleep not of tiredness but by passiveness.

  6. It's not that we do not have guts, it's just that we loathe hard-headed, bulky pricks like you who think they're opinion is bursting with the seams on what's what. There you go this comment has been written in English, for your pettiness and total oblivion.

Petetizmu tispikka. Sewwa jghidu, illi tajjeb jew hazin, xorta jghidu. :)

    1. I seriously can't quite understand why you're posting this with an anonymous nick. Who are you? A 'friend' that smiles to me and backstabs me when I'm gone?

Ahahaha, you're pathetically funny though. I must say you made my day. Sour grapes? Really? What are you on? In my life I've always achieved what I wanted - and because of that I don't need to hide my name. With my head held high I can tell you that yes, when I was MUCH younger and had my own salon, I did OFFER to do it. Yet, unlike what you seem to be implying, I never craved it. I was young and wanted to work and I guess there's nothing wrong with that, is there?

Yes, I will say it to you again, here, with my name showing - because unlike others I'm proud of all my achievements and of who I am - this show was OUTRAGEOUSLY CRAPPY!

  8. I was browsing on facebook and I noticed 8 out of 10 pictures during the MWM events Miss Daniela Darmanin this year winner is always in the middle of every picture and I kept asking why she was so confident from the very very first moments. Also a friend of mine told me that if a Model taking part in MWM ever indulged into nudity in the past she has to be dismissed. I assume that this is not the case in Malta because such shoots never happen in this country, but then he made me aware that a Photographer names Roberto Rizzo once made some pictures to some models and friends of friends..and my mind just clicked...this guy as far as people tend to say he never does anything with clothes on since he is a very well known Nude and Known Professional Photographer ...What is turns to be as people are saying?
