Better put some glasses on...

Having a quick coffee at Café Cuba turned out to be quite a nightmare. And it's not even because of the not-so-good coffee they served us.

No, a driver decided to park his truck right in front of the café, next to the patrons, to unload (so far so good - they haven't got any other way to do it.) However, the stupid driver (for want of a better word) deemed fit to leave the truck's engine on - and this wasn't exactly the most eco-friendly truck, really.

As a consequence, everyone enjoying their drinks had to breathe and take in all those lovely fumes - for more than 10 minutes, please note.

Oh well, thank goodness they have an eye for detail...

How irritatingly inconsiderate! It can't be that difficult to switch the engine off for some minutes, or can it?

    1. Who said they shouldn't park and unload? What we lambasted is his leaving the engine on, which is something wholly different.

I always have my morning coffee somewhere around there, if not Misto it's Cuba or Giorgio's. It's ridiculous that these trucks always stop and unload there, in the most inconvenient hours of the day. Not only do they park on double line but yes, most of the times they also leave the engine on filling the air there with exhaust. Good point you raised there, keep it up.

  3. I'd call that Karma, because cafe cuba is extremely arrogant towards the residents of the flats above and since they have decided to build a chimney emitting it's fumes on the residents' roof, it's only 'fair' (for lack of a better word) to have vans blow fumes in their faces. I'd suggest any of the other cafeteria's on the other side of the pedestrian pavement..Service is much better too!!

  4. They shouldn't do it. However they will because legally, if the engine's still on they're technically not parked. And if they've stopped to unload on yellow lines or outside of a parking bay, they can use that 'reason' to avoid being fined for parking incorrectly. Yet with the new arrangement in Bisazza Street and the godawful parking situation across the road they can hardly do anything else. (Except perhaps invest in a trolley to take stuff to and from the van wherever it's parked.)

In addition, the coffee might be mediocre, but Cafe Cuba food is something else. Somewhat pricey perhaps but worth every cent. And if you really want to enjoy it, Sunday evenings are best as they have live music (AND it's a really weird time for delivery vans!)

  5. All you do is whine and grudge, start offering solutions too. Why have coffee in the streets? When you can enjoy perfect english coffees ,teas and much more four floors above all this hussle abd bussle at the new M&S kitchen. Never came across a VAHLMOR van over there. :)

    1. The question is "why not?"

To give you some more detail, although we're not entitled to, we didn't really get to pick the place; our student did.
In fact, we love M&S kitchen and that's where we usually hang out. True, it's arguably the nicest café in Sliema!

But that's beside the point, really.
Truck drivers should just turn the engine off, period. Is that all that difficult to do?

ps. Avoiding our whining and grudging is easy, really. All it takes is not clicking on that link there :)

    2. Yeah true, deep down i do love this blog, and what you guys do, but, just my opinion, you should consider saving loads of energy on complaining about things on and on only, you should come up with constructive solutions and ideas too :) xoxo

    3. It's unfortunate that you should mention that - again. Whilst we do every so often give solutions to things gone wrong, we are no agency that provides the other entities with concrete solutions. In fact, your reasoning is somewhat flawed - in the sense that if something's wrong, you pin-point it, even if you don't have the faculty to stop it from happening. Alas, that we cannot do.

  6. It looks like this area is contagious. Recently I went for a coffee at the new cafe were there is the hotel. I forgot the name believe me since I tried to cancel the event and the place from my system, but I cannot forget the event. I was with a friend which she was sick some days back and we asked the waitress if we can sit inside since it was in the evening and it was a bit windy. We understood that they only served food inside and that is understandable. The problem was more severe. One of the Patrons, ( Just for the name ) came over to my friend accusing her that she called the waitress STUPID , misunderstood SICK to STUPID..The problem is he was DRUNK stinking of alcohol and his dress code was more of a farmer then of a Patron...After we found out that he does not speak and understands English and he hardly spoke Italian...My friend she hardly had a voice , but this guy PATRON insisted she called the waitress Stupid. Thank God the Maltese stuff were amazingly nice and polite and they were mortified with the BOSS attitude. Oggi heheh because I remembered the name of the cafe, but Oggi I found out that the BOSS who is a share holder with an Italian Bloke, was hitting on this Eastern European waitress which no more form part of the team because she had enough big time of his abusing attitude and all he wanted to do is impress her and get laid with her for the price of his clients. I did not believe the story, but then I clicked, because I passed a couple of times that week and I always saw this BOSS smoking outside sitting on the side of the cafe and next to him there were always this poor sexual harassed waitress that he wanted to impress by ending loosing a client and at the end herself as well...God Bless All thses Bosses that we have in Our New European Country...Boss you will never see me Again at your coffee...Ne Domani, Ne un Altro Anno ne Anche OGGI
